The Republic of Croatia is situated between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea and incorporates a part of Pannonian region, thus containing a wide diversity of natural, economic and other features. Croatia varies in climate and, as a consequence, a wide diversity of flora and fauna flourish in a relatively small geographic area.

Carniolan bees (Apis mellifera carnica, Pollm.), well know world-wide, are autochthonous bees of this area.
