They were born by themselves from peoples conciousness imagination and they spread just as fast all over the Slovene territory whereever Slovene wooden beehives are used . They were decorating the small front borards over the gullet with different little pictures depictings Saints, people and animals and especially from everyfay lige. The contents of the pictures on the beehive box endind is sometimes religious, sometimes educational but evry often also both humoristic and satirical.Today we cannot definit exactly when the first beehive endings were made and we can only guess as to the cause of such a sort of paintings. We do know that the first dated beehive ending origantes from the year 1758. Ubfurtubately most of them in the passage of time were lost, partly beacuse people did not know to appreciate their historical and documentary value
And partly because they came into ownershig of foreign national goods collectors after whom all trance was lost.
Inspite of everthing, these painted beehive endings are definately without doubt a Slovene speciality of which we should be proud as it is part of history of the Slovene people. Today it is diddicult to find an original beehive ending but it is possible to buy on line copies which are just as prety and with these you can nicely decorate your houses ou your beekeping shop and make them homely and warm.
