The Triwaks Bee Research Center is located on the Campus of the Faculty of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Quality Sciences (FAFEQS) Rehovot, and its premises are comprised of a research laboratory, a workshop, and an experimental apiary of 30 bee colonies.
The laboratory is geared and equipped for separation of macromolecules (LKB electrophoreses and fraction collectors, Perkin-Elmer Spectrophotometer, HPLC, column chromatography, etc.), extraction and separation of pheromonal secretions (GLC), and their chemical characterization by GLC-MS is carried out by Dr Bilkis of the Interdepartmental Equipment Services on the campus. The ultrastructure of secretory glands is carried out by Prof. P. Cassier, Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris. The laboratory is also equipped for histology (Leitz micromanipulator, oscilloscope, microtomes, stereoscopic and optical microscopes, including photographic cameras), and general behavior studies (observation hives and cages, recorders, incubators, and meteorological apparatus).
